Arsene Wenger: How close I came to signing Eden Hazard

ARSENE WENGER has admitted he was in for Eden Hazard before he joined Chelsea. 

The Belgian winger will get another chance to show Wenger what he's missing when he lines up for Chelsea against Arsenal this Sunday in the Community Shield.

Wenger said he was in for Hazard when he moved from Lille to Chelsea in 2012, but that he was never really close to getting his man.

Wenger said: "How close were we to signing Eden Hazard? A few millions!"

"He's pushing the top two in the world.

"It's all about opinions and after that you look at the numbers and Messi and Ronaldo score 50 goals a season."

Blues boss Jose Mourinho insisted that Hazard was the best player on the planet earlier today.
